Dr Kirsty Styles from Aspen Insurance welcomes the advances made in probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment since the Tohoku quake but admits earth scientists still have many challenges to overcome. She notes that the Tohoku quake is the costliest natural disaster in economic terms on record and earth scientists do not want to make the same underestimation again.

Although Asia appears healthy on the surface, it continues to take on even more debt to support its overall growth and capitalise on perceived opportunities, says Mr Michael Frigo from Atradius. Risk mitigation and the adoption of trade insurance is thus paramount.
