Asia: Jardine Lloyd Thompson announces senior management appointments
Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc has made several senior management appointments within its UK Employee Benefits business and JLT Asia. These appointments are subject to obtaining the appropriate regulatory approvals, where required.
Mr Dominic Samengo-Turner is appointed CEO of JLT Asia, with effect from 1st May 2015. He replaces Mr Duncan Howorth who is returning to the UK after two successful years as CEO of JLT Asia to take up the position of CEO of JLT’s UK Employee Benefits business, effective from 1st June 2015. Mr Howorth will continue in his role as the International Chairman of Employee Benefits.
Mr Samengo-Turner has previously spent over 20 years at Willis, most recently as Co-Chief Executive of Global Specialities and a Director of Willis Ltd.
Mr Warren Downey, currently CEO of JLT Specialty’s Regional Risk Practice and Trading Division, is appointed Deputy CEO and COO of JLT Asia, with effect from 1 May 2015 and 1st July 2015 respectively. He replaces Mr Ian Robinson, currently the COO of JLT Asia, who is returning to the UK to take up the position of COO of Thistle Insurance Services Ltd, with effect from 1st July 2015.
Mr Mark Wood is retiring from his role as the CEO of JLT’s UK Employee Benefits business and will be leaving the Group at the end of May 2015.
Lloyd’s has new General Representative in Australia
Lloyd’s has appointed Mr Christopher Mackinnon as its new General Representative in Australia.
Mr Mackinnon brings with him more than 21 years’ experience in the international insurance industry and in this new role, he will be responsible for market development, and for liaising with market practitioners and regulatory authorities to maintain Lloyd’s presence in Australia.
Australia: New hire to lead Mobius’s property portfolio
SLE Group has appointed Mr Adam Thackeray as senior property underwriter for its wholly owned agency Mobius Underwriting Australasia.
Mr Thackeray has been in the insurance industry for 25 years, working with both brokers and underwriters. He replaces Mr Stuart Warden, who was elevated from Senior Property Underwriter to the role of General Manager in October 2014.
Willis China unveils new leadership team
Willis Group Holdings plc has announced a series of internal promotions and moves to strengthen the Willis China leadership team.
Mr Mitchell Ma has been appointed as Chairman of Willis China. Mr Ma has been CEO of Willis China since it was founded in 2004. As Chairman, he will focus on the growth and development of the business towards its goal to become the largest risk adviser and insurance broker in China.
Mr Lincoln Pan has been named as the new CEO of Willis China. Mr Pan and his family will move to the Willis China headquarters in Shanghai from Hong Kong, where he was Executive Director of Willis Hong Kong. He will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the operations and work with Mitchell and Wise Xu on the future strategy and business development.
Mr Wise Xu has been appointed as Deputy CEO of Willis China, with a focus on the management of specialist business units, placement, and the Beijing operations. Mr Xu is one of the founding members of Willis China.
The above appointments are subject to regulatory approval.
Manulife announces senior appointments in Hong Kong
Manulife (International) Ltd has announced the appointment of three senior executives in Hong Kong.
Ms Selina Ko, in her new role as Chief Human Resources Officer, has the prime focus of developing people strategies and executing various corporate initiatives to help build Manulife as an Employer of Choice. She is also in charge of strengthening a high performing culture and an engaging environment, to acquire, develop and retain talented employees.
Ms Sushmita Munshi has been appointed Assistant Vice President, Distribution Technology and Strategic Projects, and is responsible for the planning and execution of the company’s distribution-based projects.
Mr Paul Wong, in the newly created position of Assistant Vice President, Accident and Health Insurance, Individual Financial Products, is responsible for developing Manulife’s accident and health capabilities to the fullest.
Hong Kong: Peak Re recruits M&A specialist
Peak Reinsurance Co Ltd has appointed Ms Jackie Wong as Senior Vice President Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A).
Ms Wong will be working closely with Peak Re’s senior management team to explore strategic opportunities and new business areas for the group.
Malaysia: Bank Negara approves appointment of Avicennia Capital directors
Bank Negara Malaysia had announced the approval of the appointment of six directors of Avicennia Capital Sdn Bhd, Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s insurance holding company.
Bank Negara had also approved the appointment of Mr Alexander Ankel as Avicennia Capital’s Executive Director following the earlier administrative approval of his appointment as CEO.
Mr Ankel was previously the regional CEO of Allianz’s Asia-Pacific region and he has over 25 years’ experience in the life and general insurance sectors in Asia and Europe. One of his priorities is to expand Avicennia Capital’s footprint across ASEAN’s emerging markets including Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, as well as in Turkey.
The other members approved as directors are Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda, Mr Joseph Dominic Silva, Datuk Dr Syed Muhamad bin Syed Abdul Kadir, Mr Pushpanathan A/L S.A. Kanaganayar, and Mr Mustafa Kemal Olgac.
Avicennia Capital currently owns a 49% stake in Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Bhd and Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Bhd. Avicennia Capital also owns a majority stake in Acibadem Saglik ve Hayat Sigorta, a health insurance services company in Turkey.
Charles Taylor Adjusting makes four senior energy appointments in Singapore
Charles Taylor Adjusting (CTA) has significantly enhanced its energy loss adjusting capability in Asia with the appointment of four senior adjusters in Singapore.
Mr Joe Hassett has joined as Regional Director – Energy, Mr Jon Hill has joined as Director – Energy, and Mr Nigel Cook as Associate Director – Energy. The Energy Team will also be augmented by the transfer from London of Engineering Adjuster, Mr Lee Teck Yiau (Keith), who is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay as well as English.
Global: JLT Specialty has new Head for its Global Communications, Technology and Media practice
JLT Specialty relaunched its Global Communications, Technology & Media (CTM) practice, with Mr Sam Tiltman appointed as Head of Practice.
Mr Tiltman and his team will continue to provide industry specific R&D, events, benchmarking information and product development for its global client base, in addition to JLT’s core insurance broking and risk management offerings.
Global: IRM welcomes new Chief Executive
The Institute of Risk Management (IRM), a leading international professional body for risk management, has appointed Mr Ian Livsey as its new Chief Executive.
One of his priorities will be to raise awareness of IRM’s professional standards for members and champion its new certification scheme.
Global: Arthur J. Gallagher appoints new Aviation Head
Arthur J. Gallagher has appointed Mr Mark Walters as Executive Director to lead its aviation division. Mr Walters has more than 25 years’ industry experience, and he joined from Lloyd’s broker Tysers where he had been Managing Director of Aviation since 2009.
Global: RMS names Chief Technology Officer
RMS, a global catastrophe risk management firm, has named Mr Cory Isaacson as Chief Technology Officer. In this role, he will lead the development of RMS(one).
Mr Isaacson joins RMS from CodeFutures Corporation, a big data analytics software development firm that has worked on the new design for the RMS(one) platform.
