The Actuaries Institute will drive the strategic development of the role of actuaries in the new area of data analytics and work with its international colleagues to increase influence in this sector, according to the Institute’s new President, Mr Lindsay Smartt.
Mr Smartt said in a statement: “Many actuaries now nominate data analytics as their primary area of practice.”
He said that he is committed to extending the profession’s influence among key decision-makers who are grappling with complex issues such as the ageing population, budget reform, and climate change.
This year, the Institute plans to issue high-profile white papers focussing on topics such as data analytics, insurance, banking, and housing wealth. It will focus too on sustainability, the relevance of the profession and the role the Institute plays in the international arena, said Mr Smartt.
In particular, the Institute wants to further expand its reach and support in Asia, where the Institute has 15% of its membership base.
