India:Regulator to ban upfront commissions to distributors

The insurance regulator is looking to scrap upfront commissions that some insurance companies pay distributors, such as banks. The regulator wants to crack down on commissions that take a big chunk out of initial premiums, mostly without the customer's knowledge. Such commissions can at times be as much as 25-30% of the first payments on policies.
