The Australian government has launched a new International Cyber Engagement Strategy which outlines its cyber affairs agenda for the next three years, and creates the environment for digital trade to generate economic growth for the country.
Cooperating internationally to reduce the risk of cybercrime and promote peace and stability in cyberspace is another focus of the Strategy, which features eight prongs: Comprehensive & coordinated cyber affairs; digital trade; cybercrime; international security & cyberspace; internet governance & cooperation; human rights & democracy online; technology for development; and cybersecurity. The International Engagement Strategy on Cyber Security is a key deliverable of the Government’s A$230 million (US$180 million) Cyber Security Strategy.
The Indo-Pacific stands out as a key region of engagement across all the eight prongs. The government will allocate $10 million – in addition to the $4 million already provided last year – to the Cyber Cooperation Program, which was launched last year as an Overseas Development Program to improve cyber security in the Indo-Pacific in particular.
