South African delegation in Singapore share information and best practices

A South African delegation of 35 insurance professionals (a mix of insurers, reinsurers, brokers, risk managers and others) was in Singapore in September at the invitation of the Singapore Insurance Institute (SII).
The 35 professionals were from the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and the purpose of the event was to share information and best practices between the Singapore and South African insurance markets. The IIG delegation was on an education and networking tour that brought them to Asia, namely Hong Kong and Singapore.
In Singapore, the session was led by Ms Jeanette Lim, President of SII and Ms Thokozile Mahlangu, CEO of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (the professional membership institute for the entire South African insurance industry) together with Mr Gerald Van Wyk, President of IIG.
The South African delegates learned a significant amount about the Singapore insurance market and structure of the various insurance organisations and bodies that that support the insurance industry in Singapore and the wider Asia Pacific market. The differences between the Singapore market and the South Africa market were apparent in terms of outlook and challenges, including attracting and retaining talent and diversity & inclusion in insurance. Yet both SII and IIG embrace shared objectives in promoting and enhancing the professional standards of the insurance industry as well as facilitating growth and interactions through educational, social and cultural activities.
