Fortune General Insurance (FGen) has urged regulators to make mandatory the use of dashboard cameras in motor vehicles to speed up and simplify insurance claim processing.
Fgen, which began offering a 10% discount on their motor insurance products to encourage the use of dashcams by clients early this year, stressed the importance of leveraging technology to optimise insurance claims processing acknowledged to be prone to inefficiencies and even corruption among law-enforcement officials and sometimes insurance executives, reported Business Mirror.
FGen President Michael F Rellosa said: “FGen was among the first to offer a discount to motorists with dashcams, but we need to do more for the benefit of our customers.”
Mr Antonio Roderick B. Cabusao, a member of the public relations and education committee of the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association, said: “[It’s] either the dashcam or the claims form. But it’s better if the dashcam is used. The claims form can be tampered with, but the dashcam is actual.”
He added the use of dashcams in place of photos or police reports have yet to be standardised in the insurance industry. A
