Economic unrest is expected to threaten security in Asia Pacific more than anywhere in the world and on par with Sub-Saharan Africa according to the first edition of World Security Report published by the British multinational security company G4S.
The report anticipates economic unrest to be the top security-impacting hazard in 2024 by 52% of the chief security officers (CSOs) polled, compared with a global average of 47%. The most affected market globally is Japan, with 66% of CSOs there anticipating this hazard.
For the Asia Pacific section of the report 458 CSOs were surveyed from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.
The complete survey for the report included 1,775 CSOs across 30 countries. Global companies with total revenue of more than $20tn were involved in the research.
The survey revealed that 51% of participating CSOs in the Asia Pacific region are of the view that economic criminals are the threat actor group that poses the greatest threat in 2024. This is on par with the global average of 49%. Thailand is expected to be the most impacted market in the region at 65%. A
