Nepal: Health insurance services to be made more accessible and efficient

The over 9.3m insured individuals covered under the Nepalese government’s health insurance scheme will now be able to access these health insurance services with better convenience. The services will also be made more efficient and citizen friendly.
The Nepalese Health Insurance Board has announced that the members of the government’s health insurance scheme can now receive treatment from any healthcare facilities listed in the Board’s First Service Point list. Nepal has 377 public hospitals across the country.
The new customer friendly services have already been started across the country from July 2025. The policyholders can receive the healthcare services from anywhere in the country regardless of their place of residence.
The health insurance programme was launched in 2016 and has been providing healthcare services to the poor Nepalese citizens.
The Nepalese government has set a target to increase the renewal of health insurance policies to 90% by 2030. A
