BEST Re, previously a familiar face at Monte Carlo and other major insurance events, has been in run-off following a spate of claims since the Thai floods. There are lessons to be drawn from the fall of the once-popular, 'A-'-rated reinsurer in Asia and the Middle East, which also rallied the cause of Islamic insurance, even though the saga has not ended.
