Dr Nikolaus von Bomhard is 2017 Insurance Hall of Fame Laureate

The International Insurance Society (IIS) has announced Dr Nikolaus von Bomhard, Chairman of the Board of Management of Munich Re, as the 2017 Insurance Hall of Fame Laureate. He will be inducted at a 3 July 2017 gala awards dinner held in conjunction with the IIS Global Insurance Forum in London.
“Induction into the Insurance Hall of Fame award is the highest accolade in our industry and is a testament to Nikolaus’ outstanding achievements during his brilliant career at Munich Re,” said Mr James Vickers, Chairman of the IIS Honors Committee. “As an effective leader with inspired vision, resolute ethical standards and a deep commitment to issues surrounding sustainable development, Nikolaus embodies the criteria of the Insurance Hall of Fame.” Mr Michael J Morrissey, IIS president and CEO, added that Dr von Bomhard steered Munich Re successfully through the financial crisis with a steady hand.
Dr von Bomhard joined the Munich Re graduate trainee program in 1985 and has been with the company since. He was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management in 2004. Last March, Munich Re announced that he would step down as Chairman and CEO on 26 April 2017, the date of its next AGM, and would be succeeded by Dr Joachim Wenning.
The nominees for the 2017 Insurance Hall of Fame were selected by the IIS Honors Committee, a body of senior insurance executives and academics, and voted on by IIS members by secret ballot.
