Asia: Liberty promotes new Global Financial Risks Manager
Liberty Specialty Markets has promoted Mr Chris Sawyer to the role of Manager, Global Financial Risks for the Asia-Pacific region. He will move to Singapore from London, where he has been Country and Credit Risk Manager, Global Financial Risks for the last 18 months.
Mr Sawyer replaces Mr Andrew Beechey, who recently moved from Singapore to London to take on a new role as Head of Underwriting and Strategic Development for Liberty’s Global Financial Risks team. Mr Sawyer will report to Mr Beechey and to Mr Ben Hissey, Head of Liberty International Underwriters in Asia.
In his new role he will assist in the development of Liberty’s credit and political risk insurance portfolio across the Asia Pacific region.
Miller expands team in Asia
Mr John Moncavage and Mr Piers Hughes have joined specialist (re)insurance broker Miller to help drive its continued growth in Asia Pacific. The two experienced business development executives will be based in Miller’s Singapore office.
Mr Moncavage will lead Miller’s credit and political risks initiative in the Asia Pacific region. He will be working closely with Mr Nigel Cross and the team in Singapore, as well as Mr James Cunningham and Mr Benjamin Gibbons in London.
Mr Hughes will work closely with the property, casualty and energy teams in Singapore and London to help strengthen its client offering and drive revenue growth in Asia. His areas of focus will include property, terrorism, downstream energy and engineering.
Asia: Ed announces new reinsurance head
Mr Marcus Taylor has been appointed Head of Reinsurance, Asia Pacific at Ed, the global reinsurance, wholesale and specialty broker. He will take up his role later in 2018 and will be based in the Ed office in Singapore. Mr Taylor will report to Mr Kieran Angelini-Hurll, CEO – Reinsurance and Stephen Britten, CEO – Asia Pacific.
Mr Taylor brings nearly two decades of industry experience to Ed. He joins from IAG where he held the position of Senior Manager Reinsurance, International.
Asia: FWD Group announces the appointment of South East Asia Chairman
FWD Group has appointed Mr Arthur Lee as EVP, New Markets & Corporate Governance, and South East Asia Chairman. In the role, Mr Lee will oversee FWD’s expansion in the region, as well as leading corporate governance across the Group, including risk, compliance, audit, and legal functions.
His long track record of C-suite insurance industry experience in Asia Pacific saw him most recently at Tokio Marine Asia, where he was the Chief Executive and member of the Board, as well as Executive Officer of Tokio Marine
Holdings.
Asia: BELFOR announces new head
BELFOR Asia has appointed Mr Neville Miles as Managing Director of Asia with effect from 1 February 2018. He succeeds Mr Brian Whitmore, who will retire after 25 years with the company. Mr Whitmore will continue in a part-time capacity in the role of Chairman of BELFOR Asia.
Mr Miles joined the company after a career that includes working in technology start-ups and a 15-year career with SIEMENS. He has extensive Asia Pacific experience, having worked and lived in the region for many years.
Australia: Actuaries Institute names new President and leadership team for 2018
Actuaries Institute has appointed Mr John Evans as their new president. Mr Evans is a director of a specialist consultancy business and previously held roles in the Dean’s Unit at the University of Sydney Business School and was head of Risk and Actuarial Studies at the University of New South Wales Business School.
He is joined by Ms Nicolette Rubinsztein as Senior Vice President and Ms Hoa Bui as Vice President.
China: FWD names new Managing Director
Mr Ken Lau has been named Managing Director, Greater China, and CEO (designate), Hong Kong & Macau for FWD. He takes over from Mr David Wong, who is the outgoing CEO for Hong Kong & Macau, and Executive Vice President, Greater China Region.
Mr Lau will lead FWD Hong Kong & Macau’s growing business and drive the delivery of its technology-driven and customer-led strategy, as well as oversee the future establishment of FWD in Greater China.
He has over 27 years’ insurance industry experience in Greater China and joins FWD Hong Kong & Macau from Union Life Insurance Co China, where he was the CEO, charged with managing both the life and general insurance businesses.
Mr Wong meanwhile, announced his retirement from his position (from April 2018) to spend more time with his family. He was a founding member of FWD Group and led the transformation of the acquired Hong Kong & Macau business. He has agreed to continue to work with FWD Group as an adviser and will maintain his position as Chairman of FWD Vietnam.
Korea: Chubb appoints new Country President
Chubb has appointed Mr Edward Ler as the new Country President for its general insurance business in Korea. Mr Ler replaces Mr Edward Kopp, who was recently appointed as the new Country President for Chubb’s general insurance business in Thailand.
Mr Ler joined Chubb in 2013 as Senior Vice President and Regional Head of Personal Lines, which includes oversight for Motor, Residential, High Net Worth and Specialty Personal Lines. In his new capacity, Mr Ler will continue to report to Mr Paul McNamee, Chubb’s Regional President for Asia Pacific.
Succeeding Mr Ler as the new Asia Pacific Head of Personal Lines, is Ms Soledad Muné. Presently Chief Underwriting Officer, Personal Insurance for Chubb Overseas General, Ms Muné is responsible for ensuring the continued profitability of the company’s international auto and residential insurance portfolios. In her new role, she will be based in Singapore and will report to Mr McNamee.
Both Mr Ler’s and Ms Mune’s appointments will be effective on 1 March 2018.
Singapore: Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance appoints Deputy CEO for MS First Capital
With the successful acquisition of First Capital Insurance in December 2017, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance has rebranded Singapore’s largest commercial property and casualty insurer to MS First Capital (effective 15 January 2018), and appointed
Mr Tetsuya Adachi to join its leadership team as Deputy CEO, reporting to Mr Ramaswamy Athappan, CEO of MS First Capital.
Mr Adachi has nearly 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, and has been based for extended periods in the US and Singapore, and, most recently, in Indonesia as General Manager of PT Asuransi MSIG Indonesia since April 2016.
Chubb makes leadership appointments in Thailand
Chubb has made two leadership appointments for its general insurance business in Thailand. Both appointments will be effective from 1 March 2018 and subject to regulatory and Board approval.
Khun Nittaya Piriyathamwong, currently Country President for Thailand, has been appointed to the position of Chairman of the Executive Committee, Chubb Samaggi. In this capacity, Khun Nittaya will oversee the executive committee in Thailand and lead major strategic objectives of Chubb Samaggi. Khun Nittaya has been Country President since 2016 and was previously Managing Director for Siam Commercial Samaggi Insurance PCL, a company which Chubb acquired in 2014. In her new role, she will continue to report to Mr Paul McNamee, Chubb’s Regional President for Asia Pacific.
Mr Edward (Ed) Kopp, currently serving as Country President for Chubb’s general insurance business in Korea, has been appointed to succeed Khun Nittaya as Country President of Thailand.
Mr Kopp has led Chubb’s operations in Korea for four years and has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. During the course of his career, he has worked for some leading institutions in banking and insurance in increasingly more responsible roles – as Chief Operating Officer in Korea, CEO in Hong Kong.
Global: HDI Global SE appoints new CFO
The Supervisory Board of HDI Global SE has appointed Mr Clemens Jungsthöfel as a Member of the Management Board of the company with effect from 1 May 2018. He will take over the functions of CFO on 1 July. He will succeed Mr Ulrich Wollschläger, who will step down at the end of June and begin his retirement.
Mr Jungsthöfel comes from the audit and consulting firm KPMG. In his new position as CFO, he will be responsible for controlling, investments, risk management, corporate development and passive reinsurance.
Global: Ed bolsters cyber offering with appointment
Ed has appointed Mr Henry Warner as Cyber Broker/Producer. He takes up his role with immediate effect and will report to Mr James Baird, divisional director, professional and executive risks (ProEx).
Mr Warner will play a key part in the continued development of Ed’s cyber book. He will also support the creation of a cyber centre of excellence. Mr Warner joins from SafeOnline where he served as a cyber, media and technology broker. A
