Asia: Prudential Corporation Asia names new COO
Prudential Corporation Asia has appointed Mr Robin Spencer as Chief Operating Officer. As a member of the PCA Executive Team, his primary responsibility will be ensuring that PCA has a scalable and efficient operating model to deliver on the business’ strategic agenda.
Mr Spencer will lead the evaluation and implementation of opportunities to leverage the Company’s business scale across Asia and Africa, delivering greater levels of efficiencies. He will also lead the production of an operational blueprint for the overall business; implementing a framework for PCA to optimise key business investments.
He joins the business from NN Group in the Netherlands, where he was CEO International Insurance, with responsibility for the European, Japanese and reinsurance businesses.
Asia: Cigna International Markets expands senior executive roles and appoints Head of Network and Product
Cigna International Markets announced the expanded role of two senior executives and a new appointment in Asia Pacific.
Mr Raymond Ng takes up an expanded role as Regional Head of Distribution, Asia Pacific and will have accountability for all health sales, producer relations and cross selling business. He joined Cigna International Markets last year as Regional Head of Distribution, Global Health Benefits, Asia Pacific. He will continue to be based in Singapore.
Ms Greta Mikelonis takes up an expanded role as Health Solutions Leader, Asia Pacific. She joined Cigna as Head of Health in Asia Pacific two and a half years ago and now has oversight of health products, customer and client commitments, and building capabilities across the region. She continues to be based in Hong Kong.
Ms Estella Park has been appointed Head of Network and Product, Asia Pacific, responsible for Cigna’s regional medical and health providers’ network, and developing market-focused and business relevant strategies for products and services. Based in Wilmington, Delaware, US, she is a 19-year veteran of Cigna.
Australia: Actuaries Institute appoints new CEO
The Actuaries Institute has appointed Ms Elayne Grace as CEO.
Mr Grace has served as deputy CEO and Head of Public Policy at the Institute since 2013. She replaces Mr David Bell who resigned in late 2017. She brings more than 20 years’ international experience with consulting firms and major insurers. She is a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
China: XL Catlin names CEO of insurance business
XL Catlin has appointed Mr Phil Xue as CEO (General Manager) of XL Insurance (China) Company Ltd. Mr Xue will also act as Country Manager for XL Catlin in China, coordinating all in-country activities.
Before joining XL Catlin, he spent more than 10 years with Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC, most recently as Head of South China Market and Head of its Shanghai Operation. The appointment is pending regulatory approval.
China: Pacific Life Re names new regional head
Pacific Life Re has appointed Mr Wesley Cui as Head of Greater China. In this new role, Mr Cui will be responsible for leading, developing, and implementing Pacific Life Re’s marketing strategy in Greater China. He will be based in Singapore.
Mr Cui has over 16 years of experience in both China and the UK, having worked in both direct life insurers and an international reinsurer across roles such as pricing and corporate valuation. He most recently led Willis Towers Watson’s actuarial, strategy and management consulting business for both Life and Property & Casualty insurers in China.
Hong Kong: Willis Towers Watson announces key hires
Willis Towers Watson has appointed Mr Roger Steel as Managing Director for Hong Kong and Macau. He is based in Hong Kong.
Before joining Willis Towers Watson, Mr Steel held various key leadership positions, including CEO for Sun Life Hong Kong. He has more than 35 years of experience across insurance and consulting.
In addition to Mr Steel’s appointment, Willis Towers Watson announced two other key hires for their Corporate Risk & Broking and Talent & Rewards businesses.
Mr Ted Hodgkinson is Willis Towers Watson’s new Head of Corporate Risk & Broking for Hong Kong and Macau. Based in Hong Kong, he brings to the role more than 20 years of experience working in the region, of which 15 years were in senior leadership roles in Hong Kong and regionally.
Mr Noel Goh joined Willis Towers Watson as Head of Talent & Rewards for Hong Kong. Based in Hong Kong, he has worked as a strategic adviser to senior leaders in the private and government sectors across Asia Pacific and previously held a regional leadership role with Aon Hewitt.
India: Willis Towers Watson unveils head of Treaty Reinsurance
Willis Towers Watson has announced the appointment of Mr Jyoti Kishore Majumdar as Head of Treaty Reinsurance in Willis Towers Watson India Insurance Brokers Private Limited.
Mr Majumdar’s 14 years in the reinsurance industry include a first decade of catastrophe modelling and model development, where he acquired a deep knowledge of the analytical foundations underpinning the management and mitigation of catastrophe risk, and a subsequent four years as Swiss Re’s Head of Client Markets in India on P&C business.
His arrival comes shortly after the joint venture of Willis Towers Watson in India which has permitted Willis Re to fully engage in India.
Based in Mumbai, he will be supported by senior colleague Mr Viresh Paralkar in building out the local treaty team and delivering the capital, risk management and risk-transfer expertise available from the global Willis Re network to their Indian clients.
Singapore: Chubb names new Country President
Chubb has appointed Mr Scott Simpson as the new Country President for its general insurance business in Singapore. Mr Simpson replaces Mr Adam Clifford who will move on to a new role as Chubb’s Division President, Continental Europe.
As the new Country President, Mr Simpson will have overall responsibility for the growth and financial results of the operations in Singapore across all lines of business ie Property & Casualty, Accident & Health and Personal Lines. He is currently serving as Head of State Distribution, Australia, where he leads the National Underwriting Centre, Independent Broker Unit and Global Broker Unit underwriting teams.
In his new role, he will relocate from Sydney to Singapore and will report to Mr Paul McNamee, Regional President for Chubb in Asia Pacific.
Singapore: AIA appoints new CFO
AIA Singapore has appointed Mr Koo Chung Chang as CFO of AIA Singapore, while Ms Chiew Ai Chin has succeeded him as Chief Strategy Officer.
A veteran in the life insurance industry, Mr Koo will oversee the financial operations, management reporting and actuarial management of the company.
Mr Koo continues to bring strong strategic direction and leadership to the business following from his prior role as Chief Strategy Officer of AIA Singapore, where he has been responsible for developing and implementing transformational strategies.
Ms Chiew will be responsible for shaping the company’s vision, and leading the development and execution of AIA Singapore’s strategy and transformation journey. She will also drive the company’s data analytics capability at the enterprise level, leveraging the power of data to inform business strategies.
Global: RMS announces new CEO
RMS has announced the appointment of Ms Karen White as its new CEO, replacing current CEO and co-founder Hemant Shah.
Ms White is an accomplished and highly capable leader in the technology industry, having served for more than 25 years as an executive and investor. She has significant experience bringing technology, innovation, data and operations together to build and scale businesses.
Global: MS Amlin names successor for CEO role
MS Amlin has announced that Mr Simon Beale, MS Amlin’s Chief Underwriting Officer, will succeed Mr Charles Philipps as CEO on 1 April 2018.
Mr James Illingworth, currently MS Amlin’s Chief Risk Officer, will succeed Mr Beale as Chief Underwriting Officer and Mr Martyn Rodden will become Chief Risk Officer. A
