Indonesia:Insurance Council calls for improvements to be made in health insurance sector

| 26 Aug 2024

Collaboration is the key to improving access and quality of health insurance services for the Indonesian people, according to the chairman of the Indonesian Insurance Council (DAI), Mr Yulius Billy Bhayangkara.

Speaking at the two-day 2024 Indonesia Insurance Summit in Bali last week organised by DAI, he stressed the importance of synergy between the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and insurance companies to advance the health insurance industry in Indonesia.

He proposed that OJK work with a few selected insurance companies first to start improving the health insurance industry. He said, "Why wait for 16 insurance companies when we can start with just four? It will be easier and faster."

Mr Ogi Pratomiyono, the chief executive of the Insurance, Guarantee and Pension Fund Supervisory Agency of OJK, also speaking at the Summit, said that the regulator was trying to make various changes in the insurance industry with the momentum gathered since the enactment in early 2023 of the new Financial Sector Omnibus Law (P2SK Law). Some initial steps have been taken through the launch of the 2023-2027 Insurance Sector Development and Strengthening Roadmap in October 2023.
