Insurers have eased the claims settlement process for families of victims of the Air India plane that crashed in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on 12 June.
A number of insurers have set up round the clock help desks to assist family members of the victims of the Air India plane crash that killed 241 passengers and over 40 persons on the ground.
Public sector players, Life Insurance Corporation of India and New India Assurance and a number of private players like Bajaj Allianz Life and ICICI Lombard have set up dedicated teams on the ground and are settling claims on the spot.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) had directed all insurers to expedite claims of victims and to use the publicly available passenger list and verify details against their databases of overseas medical insurance, personal accident, and life insurance policies.
IRDAI has also asked the life insurance council and general insurance council to jointly establish a dedicated cell at the hospitals where victims are being treated, and to coordinate with insurers to provide real-time information and assistance for processing life and health insurance claims. Insurers have been asked to appoint a senior-level nodal officer to coordinate with the joint cell and oversee the prompt settlement of claims.
