Vietnam:Bao Viet Insurance issues advance compensation to Vinh Xanh 58 ship passengers

| 22 Jul 2025

Immediately following the accident involving the Vinh Xanh 58 ship on the afternoon of July 19, Bao Viet Insurance and its consortium partners worked closely with the Ha Long Bay Management Board and relevant authorities to respond swiftly to the incident, aiming to mitigate the impact and uphold the rights of affected passengers.

The travel insurance programme for Ha Long Bay visitors, managed by the Bay’s authorities, is embedded in the entrance ticket and linked to individual tourist identification via QR code. This digital integration allows for efficient, transparent, and accurate verification and claims processing in the event of unforeseen accidents.

The insurance is provided by a consortium of insurers led by Bao Viet Insurance, with BSH, PTI, and MIC as participating members. Upon learning of the incident, Bao Viet Insurance promptly deployed personnel to the scene to assist rescue efforts and visited hospitals to support affected families. The company also began collecting necessary documentation to expedite compensation procedures.

For this serious incident, the maximum insurance payout is set at VND30m per person, covering loss of life or bodily injury sustained during the tour. Bao Viet Insurance has pledged to process claims with urgency and care, aiming to alleviate the burden on victims’ families and demonstrate solidarity with the affected community.

Efforts are currently underway in collaboration with local authorities and consortium members to verify passenger identities, gather medical and death records, and assess damages. Based on these findings, the insurer will proceed with compensation in a timely and transparent manner.

A company representative expressed condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed Bao Viet Insurance’s commitment to supporting the recovery process and ensuring all promised insurance benefits are delivered.

As of the early morning of July 20, authorities had found 45 out of 49 people on board at the time of the accident, of whom 35 had died, 10 had been rescued and 4 were still missing.

Search and rescue efforts are still being actively carried out by authorities.
