| 29 Jul 2026

Speakers at the opening session of the MARIM International Conference 2026 in Malaysia yesterday said that AI in risk management will define the next era of technological advancement and become essential to companies' AI strategies.

Malaysian Association of Risk & Insurance Management (MARIM) is a non-profit trade association representing corporations which practice risk and insurance management in Malaysia. The two-day conference with the theme, ‘Speed of Now: Managing Uncertainty in the AI Era,’ is focusing on how AI is changing how organisations operate, analyse information and make decisions.

In his keynote address, National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) Chief Executive, YBrs. Ir. Dr Megat Zuhairy bin Megat Tajuddin spoke on security Issues and their implications for AI development.  AI, he said is changing not only the way we use technology, but is also helping in making decisions on services that create value. He said that by accelerating innovation, the ability to govern, safeguard trust and transparency have never been more important. “Government, industry and society must come together in achieving a more resilient and peaceful cyber space and collectively strengthen cybersecurity resilience through practical application, information sharing and trusted approaches, including technologies,” he said. He spoke on the need to strengthen AI literacy and resilience and to build a future where the focus will be on the community and in protecting the nations shared values.

Megatrends for risk leaders to navigate

Aon Malaysia Chief Broking Officer & Head of Financial Specialties Ram Nandrajog spoke on the four megatrends risk leaders must navigate. These, he said are trade, technology, weather, and workforce, that are reshaping risks in Malaysia and the region.  “Trade affects supply chain, technology affects trade, weather will disrupt operations and people and workforce will determine whether we can respond to any of these disruptions,” he said. Highlighting the risk in technology and the workforce, he said that it is not whether we are adopting AI, but whether we are governing the AI that we use.

He called on risk and insurance managers to not just identify risks but to ensure that the best programs are put in place. “I'm not only talking insurance, but your risk management programs, your business continuity plans, your business impact analysis, making sure those are robust,” he said.

The MARIM International Conference 2026 is being held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 28 to 29 July 2026.
