India:Government opens applications for IRDAI chairperson role as Debashish Panda's term ends

The government has announced the opening of applications for the position of chairperson at the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), as the current chairman, Debasish Panda, is set to conclude his tenure on March 13, 2025.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 6, according to a notification from the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, putting an end to speculation about a potential extension for Panda.

The ministry’s notification states, "Applications are invited for appointment to the post of Chairperson in the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), which was established under the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 1999."

The selected candidate, per the notification, will serve a three- year term and the role is based in Hyderabad where IRDAI is headquartered.
