Malaysia's insurance regulator, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), has appointed Encik Aznan bin Abdul Aziz as deputy governor for a three-year term, effective 1 April 2025, and Ms Cindy Siah as assistant governor.
As deputy governor, Encik Aznan will oversee the supervision and regulation sector. He will also be a member of BNM’s Board of Directors and Monetary Policy Committee. He will continue to serve on various BNM committees including the Risk Management Committee, Financial Stability Committee, and Digital and Technology Committee.
Encik Aznan holds a degree in economics and accounting from the University of Bristol, UK. He is currently the chairman of the Board Audit Committee of International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation, a member of the Board of Directors and Board Audit and Risk Committee of the Labuan Financial Services Authority, a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and an ex-officio member of the Financial Reporting Foundation.
In her new role, Ms Siah will be responsible for the Financial Conglomerates Supervision, Banking Supervision, Insurance and Takaful Supervision, Risk Specialist and Technology Supervision as well as Payment Services Oversight departments.
Ms Siah is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Warwick, UK.
Datuk Jessica Chew has also been appointed technical advisor on financial stability matters, following her retirement from BNM.
