Insured losses from the Australia East Coast Severe Convective Storms (SCS) that affected Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria between 26 October and 1 November 2025 are estimated at A$1.11bn ($730m) based on initial figures released by PERILS.
The estimate, which is based on loss data collected from affected insurers, covers property and motor hull lines of business, in line with PERILS’ coverage definition for Australia.
In accordance with its reporting schedule, PERILS said an updated market loss estimate will be published on 1 February 2026, three months after the end of the event period.
Between 26 October and 1 November 2025, Australia’s east coast experienced a prolonged period of severe convective storms, with the most significant damage occurring on 26 October in the greater Brisbane area of Southeast Queensland. On the same day, a tornado caused destruction in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. After a brief lull in activity, further severe thunderstorms struck Southeast Queensland and, to a lesser extent, New South Wales on 31 October and 1 November.
