PhilHealth benefit payments rise nearly 50% to US$2.9bn by end-May

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) reported that its benefit and claims payments reached PHP177.82bn ($2.9bn) as of the end of May, according to a public advisory issued on Tuesday.

The amount paid from January to May was nearly 50% higher than the PHP118.86bn recorded during the same period in 2025. Most of the claims, amounting to PHP104.7bn, were paid to private healthcare facilities, representing an increase of more than 50% from the PHP69.59bn disbursed to private providers during the corresponding period last year.

Benefit payments to government healthcare facilities also recorded strong growth, rising 48.40% year on year to PHP73.12bn in the first five months of 2026 from PHP49.27bn a year earlier.

PhilHealth attributed the increase in benefit disbursements to the continued support and participation of its stakeholders, including members, healthcare providers and health workers.

The state insurer said the higher payouts reflect its ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access and deliver benefits to Filipinos across the country.
