Mr Marc Haushofer will join VIG Re as executive director of international business development on 1 May 2025, the Prague-headquartered reinsurer has announced.

With 40+ years in (re)insurance, Mr Haushofer was most recently SVP Asia Pacific at RenaissanceRe. Previously, he was EVP & CEO Asia Pacific at Validus Re, where he established and led the Singapore branch. In addition, he chaired the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA) from 2017 till end-2024.

He also served as CEO & principal officer of Munich Re Singapore and a deputy member of executive management at Munich Re Munich.

Marc’s expertise will be invaluable in strengthening VIG Re’s international footprint,” said VIG Re.

In addition, much of the credit for the global success of the Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) — modelled as the (re)insurance industry’s version of the World Economic Forum — goes to Mr Haushofer. The SIRC is organised by the SRA. Mr Haushofer’s impact on the development and growth of the SIRC is widely acknowledged.

Mr Haushofer has an enviable track record in the industry in Asia. In 2023, he was conferred the Singapore Institute of Banking and Finance Distinguished Fellow Award in General Insurance. He also served on the bench of judges in several annual editions of the Asia Insurance Industry Awards organised by the Asia Insurance Review, the region's leading insurance publication.

VIG Re, founded in 2008, is a leading reinsurer in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), growing its market position in continental Europe and Asia. The reinsurer is a member of the Vienna Insurance Group, Austria’s largest international insurance group.
