Mr Tan Suee Chieh, a veteran in the insurance industry and previously Group Chief Executive of NTUC Enterprise, has been elected to the council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), the only chartered professional body dedicated to educating, developing and regulating actuaries based both in the UK and globally.
He is one of two Southeast Asians ever to be elected to the board. The other is Ms Kartina Tahir Thomson.
The two Southeast Asians were voted to the panel by faculty members to sit on the eight-member council for a three-year term from 2017 to 2020. There were 18 candidates who stood for this year’s council elections. Other actuaries from Southeast Asia had previously stood for IFoA council election.
IFoA represents and regulates over 28,000 members worldwide for the benefit of the outside world and oversees their education at all stages of qualification throughout their careers.
Mr Tan served as Chief Executive at Prudential Singapore and NTUC Income at different times during his 36-year career, mostly spent in the insurance industry. A
