The Pan-Asia Risk and Insurance Management Association (PARIMA) hosted its second regional conference of 2017 in Shanghai recently. Topics including China’s cyber regulation, captives, supply chain risks, project risks related to international expansion, product recall and safety management in construction projects were discussed.
With China’s Belt and Road initiative being the order of the day, North Asia CEO of Aon Risk Solutions Owen Belman and Managing Director of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Jingwei Jia, shared potential investment opportunities and considerations the project will bring to organisations over the next few years.
Keynote speeches included EY’s sharing on robotic process automation revolution in China, Zurich’s experience of the Tianjin disaster in 2015, as well as a personal account on kidnap and ransom by security professional Mr Gene Yu. Mr Yu, a former US Special Forces officer, played a key role in securing the release of a Taiwanese citizen abducted by Abu Sayyaf militants in 2013.
Conducted bilingually in both Mandarin and English, the Shanghai conference attracted over 180 delegates, most of them corporate risk managers based in China. The risk managers were from a range of sectors and companies including Disney, Mary Kay, Lenovo, Toyota, INPEX, Intercontinental Hotel Group, Sinochem, IKEA, Aboitiz, Porsche, Nestle, Ford, Thyssenkrupp, Yum, Michelin and Amazon.
PARIMA also announced that it will be launching the Willis Towers Watson-PARIMA Risk Lab session in Shanghai on 3 August 2017.
The next regional conference will be held in Singapore on 14 November 2017. A
