114 students of 2014-16 and 2015-17 batches of PGDM programme (Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Management) of National Insurance Academy (NIA), received their diplomas at the convocation held at the NIA campus in Pune on 16 September this year.
Mr T S Vijayan, Chairman IRDAI, who was the chief guest at the convocation, conferred diplomas to the students who successfully completed the PGDM programme.
In his convocation address, Mr Vijayan emphasised the importance of insurance in the growth of Indian economy. He explained the immense opportunities that the sector offers to the young generation.
Speaking about insurance as a risk transfer mechanism that provides the confidence to the society to take up risks, Mr Vijayan said this enables growth of the country’s economy, which in turn boosts consumption and investment in industrial activities.
Mr Vijayan said it is important that the insurance sector ensures that its benefits reach the man at the bottom of the pyramid. He said the sector has huge resources at its disposal and this calls for major social obligations and corporate governance practices on its part. This would be a great contributor to the economic growth of the country.
Mr V K Sharma, Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India and the Chairman of the Board of Governors, NIA, urged in his address for neo-insurance professionals to take up their new profession in right earnest. He said they can provide new shape direction to the Indian insurance industry. Mr Sharma emphasised on the importance of a spirit of collaboration and teamwork in the young generation to achieve the targets. A
