A single Indian organisation suffered 2,146 cyber attacks on average per week in the last six months, compared to 1,239 attacks per organisation globally, according to a new report.
Cyber security solutions provider Check Point released its Threat Intelligence Report 2023 in July 2023 which said healthcare (4,839 incidents) was the sector most attacked and was followed by education and research (3,532 incidents), government and military (3,017 attacks) and insurance and legal (2,523 cyber attacks) were the most attacked industries in India.
Globally, the second quarter of 2023 saw an 8% surge in global weekly cyber attacks. The report noted that the education and research sector experienced the highest number of attacks per week and Africa and APAC faced the highest annual increase in weekly attacks per organisation.
The report mentioned, “While the disruptive impact of President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine on the cyber landscape has relatively reduced in recent months, the threat landscape has returned to a state of ‘normality.’ This new normal is characterised by an increase in cyber attacks.”
The report said that despite the conflict’s effect coming down, with the persistence of cyber threats, there is still a need for heightened vigilance and robust cyber security measures. A
