New Zealand:Insurer partners with nature conservationists to promote climate resilience

| 28 Feb 2025

QBE Insurance New Zealand (QBE) has announced a new partnership with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) to drive hands-on environmental action and contribute towards biodiversity restoration and climate resilience efforts across the country.

CVNZ is one of New Zealand’s leading volunteer conservation organisations.

In this partnership, QBE will not only provide funding — but will also be actively engaged in helping CVNZ with its mission to restore rivers, streams and wetlands by providing QBE’s people, customers, and partners with opportunities to engage in volunteering initiatives that aim to strengthen climate resilience in local communities.

QBE New Zealand and Pacific CEO Jonathan Groves, said, “Teaming up with CVNZ provides an exciting opportunity for our people, partners, and customers to participate in hands-on conservation efforts, collaborating with dedicated experts to help safeguard the natural spaces that are important to us all."

The partnership will kick off with support for two major CVNZ-led restoration projects: the Otakaro Avon River Corridor (OARC) in Christchurch and the Papakura Stream restoration in Auckland. Volunteers will assist with reforestation and habitat restoration work in these areas.

CVNZ general manager Aaron Jaggar said, “This support will allow us to significantly increase our impact and engage even more members of the community in planting and restoration activities.”

In January 2025 the QBE Foundation introduced "Catalysing Impact", a new programme designed to support the accelerated growth in Australia and New Zealand of purpose-driven businesses and impact enterprises that focus on climate resilience and inclusion. This initiative aims to help these businesses grow and increase their positive impact through funding and capability development to help them secure third-party investments.
