To tackle massive medical insurance fraud across the country, China's National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) has launched a tip-off service through its official WeChat account.
The new service allows social organisations and the public to report leads on medical insurance fraud, for which the NHSA will reward eligible informants with a one-time payment ranging from Yuan200 ($27) to as much as Yuan200,000.
The NHSA noted that the misuse of medical insurance funds undermines public interests, and it urged the public to make efforts to combat fraud.
In 2024, China’s medical insurance watchdogs recovered Yuan27.5bn of misused medical insurance funds and arrested 10,741 people.
The Chinese government will continue to strengthen its oversight of medical insurance funds to ensure minimum fraud.
