| 08 Sep 2026

A new International Alternative Solutions practice, bringing together specialist expertise to develop innovative risk and capital solutions for clients across international markets, has been launched by Howden Re.

Howden Re has launched an International Alternative Solutions practice, bringing together specialist expertise to develop innovative risk and capital solutions for clients across international markets.

The new practice combines structured reinsurance, analytics, parametric and capital markets expertise to develop innovative risk and capital solutions for clients

The practice will work with corporates, insurers, reinsurers, public sector entities and investors to develop solutions addressing both physical and financial exposures. Its capabilities span structured reinsurance, climate science, data analytics, product design, portfolio structuring, pricing, capital markets and placement.

The Alternative Solutions practice will support clients across agriculture, energy, infrastructure, natural capital, construction, travel, events and specialty risks. For insurers and reinsurers, this includes portfolio-level protection, capital relief, earnings stabilisation and alternative retrocession structures, as well as solutions that connect traditional reinsurance, structured solutions and insurance-linked securities capacity.

The need for these solutions is increasing as physical risks become more volatile and clients seek new ways to manage exposures that may not be efficiently addressed by traditional insurance alone.

Howden Re International CEO Massimo Renia said that clients across Europe, Asia and other international markets are increasingly looking for solutions that go beyond traditional risk transfer and Alternative Solutions brings together specialist capabilities across risk, analytics, reinsurance and capital to give clients more options for managing volatility, protecting their balance sheets and accessing capacity. “Parametric is an important part of that proposition. Adding Peter and Kanika’s expertise gives us another way to address complex and underserved risks, while our international platform allows us to apply that expertise across markets, sectors and client needs,” he said.
