Australia's Financial Services Council (FSC) has announced a new Deputy Chair, new Board appointments and acknowledged the significant contributions of its departing Director and outgoing Deputy Chair upon her retirement.

Mr Nick Hamilton, CEO of Challenger, was appointed Deputy Chair. A strong contributor to the Board over four years, he brings deep expertise in retirement income, financial markets and wealth management.

“It is a privilege to be appointed Deputy Chair of the FSC, which plays a critical role in advocating for better financial outcomes for all Australians,” said Mr Hamilton.

“With ageing demographics, a mature savings system, emerging asset classes and disruptive technology, the role for the FSC to drive advocacy and good policy to deliver financial confidence has never been more important.”

Mr Blair Vernon, incoming CEO of AMP and former AMP Group CFO, has been appointed as an FSC Director. He brings extensive experience across wealth management and financial services.

“Our industry is fundamental to the wellbeing of all Australians and through the FSC I look forward to continuing to help shape policies and outcomes in service of them,” Mr Vernon said.

Ms Alison Telfer, CEO of Schroders Australia, also rejoins the Board. She previously served as an FSC Director (2022–2025), Co-Chair of the Funds Management Board Committee and Chair of the Standards Oversight and Disciplinary Board Committee.

Said FSC Chairman David Bryant, “Ms Telfer’s deep expertise and commitment to high standards strengthen the Board as we advocate for policies that enhance Australia’s financial services sector.”

Lastly, Ms Alexis George is retiring as CEO of AMP, and standing down from the FSC Board. The FSC said that she was a strong advocate for policy supporting Australians’ long-term financial security.
