Former President of the Bangladesh Insurance Association Sheikh Kabir Hossain passes

Former President of the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) and architect of the country's insurance sector, Sheikh Kabir Hossain, passed away on 14 February at the age of 84.

At the time of his passing, he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka, according to news platform The Khaborwala. The article also noted that Mr Hossain had been fighting various age-related ailments for several years.

Mr Hossain was born in 1942. First cousin of the late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Dhaka, the article said.

Mr Hossain was first elected President of the BIA in 2011, and held the post for 13 years. He also chaired both Sonar Bangla Insurance and FarEast Islamic Life Insurance, the news article stated.

Formerly, he was also the Chairman of other organisations including the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Mr Hossain was the former International Director of Lions Clubs International.
