Japan's Prudential Life Insurance has earmarked millions of dollars to compensate customers affected by employee misconduct.
According to a report by Japan’s national broadcaster NHK World, the funding, amounting to around JPY4.7bn ($30.3m), was recorded as an extraordinary loss in the firm’s earnings report.
In early 2026, it was revealed that employees of the organisation and former workers had misappropriated customer funds, forcing the company to halt sales of new policies until November.
The scandal also led to the establishment of a specialist panel to assess the damage suffered by customers and determine appropriate compensation for affected policyholders.
The organisation had earlier estimated the misappropriations at around $20m; however, more customers have since come forward with claims, leading to a higher figure.
