General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) has announced the appointment of Shri Hitesh Rameshchandra Joshi as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of the Corporation. The effective date of assumption of charge is 16th June 2026.
Shri Joshi had earlier taken charge as the interim Chairman-cum-Managing Director effective October 1, 2025, following the completion of the two-year tenure of Shri Narayanan Ramaswamy as CMD. With over three decades of experience in the insurance and reinsurance sector, Shri Joshi brings deep domain expertise and leadership experience to the role.
A career professional at GIC Re, Shri Joshi has held several key leadership positions across the organisation. Prior to assuming the role of CMD, he served as Executive Director, overseeing multiple strategic and operational functions including international business operations, human resources, information technology, actuarial services, business intelligence and office support services. Over the course of his career, he has also handled diverse responsibilities across domestic and international reinsurance business, retrocession, finance, internal audit, credit rating, investor relations and budgetary control.
Speaking on the appointment, Shri Joshi said, “It is an honour to lead GIC Re and exciting to helm it when the global reinsurance industry alongside Indian re-insurance market is undergoing significant transformation. Shri Joshi holds a post-graduate degree in Accountancy from the University of Mumbai and a Master’s degree in Financial Management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai. He is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India.
