Thailand:Regulator launches a new initiative to develop risk management and insurance planning talent

The Thai insurance regulator, Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC), has launched a "PRIME Generation 1" programme to develop risk management and insurance planning talent. This will help the insurance community to support the new era of global risks.

According to an OIC media release, the PRIME 1 (Professional Risk and Insurance Management Expert Programme) will groom professional risk and insurance management experts who can provide quality advice to the public and the business sector. It will help build public confidence and help the business sector to manage risks more effectively.

Launching the PRIME 1 programme, the Secretary General of OIC, Mr Chuchatr Pramoolpol, said, “The world is currently facing increasingly complex and unpredictable risks. Whether it is climate change, large-scale disasters, economic fluctuations, advances in digital technology, and the geopolitical situation, it reflects that risk management is not a matter of any one organization, but of the entire economic and social system.”

Mr Pramoolpol said, “The most important thing is to be prepared to deal with potential risks, and in such a context, the insurance system plays an important role. 

“The PRIME course has been devised in collaboration between OIC and the Association of Life Insurance Agents and Financial Advisors to jointly develop personnel in the insurance industry to become true risk management and insurance planning experts.”

The programme is designed to develop in-depth knowledge and skills in various dimensions of the insurance business. Covering life insurance, non-life insurance, regulatory standards, risk management at both the individual and organizational levels.

It will also cover InsurTech innovation and technology, insurance product development, consumer protection, as well as knowledge in law, finance and investment, along with strengthening practical skills.

These measures would enable the participants to effectively apply their knowledge to real work and raise their performance to meet international professional standards, while adhering to the principles of ethics and professional ethics.
