Sri Lanka:Insurance Association launches digital motor insurance card to boost public services

| 13 Jan 2026

The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL) has launched an E-Motor Insurance Digital Card and donated 500 tablets to the police, aiming to modernise motor insurance and enhance digital public services across the country.

According to IASL, the tablets, provided in collaboration with its 13 general insurance member companies will support the police in implementing the new Accident Management System.

“By introducing the E-Motor Card and equipping the Police Department with essential technology, we have strengthened the link between insurers, regulators, and law enforcement,” said IASL President Lasitha Wimalarathna, according to a report by Economynext.

The tablets are expected to enable police officers to record accident data digitally and in real time, reducing reliance on manual paperwork and improving both the accuracy and efficiency of accident reporting, IASL added.

The E-Motor Card, accessible via mobile devices, replaces the traditional physical motor insurance card and provides motorists with a secure, tamper-proof and easily verifiable digital form of insurance documentation.
